The Youth Substance Use Prevention Program (YSUPP) is a national initiative funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada that seeks to prevent substance use and promote wellness among Canadian youth. YSUPP is based on the Icelandic Prevention Model (IPM), a community-based approach aimed at identifying risks and mobilizing protective factors to prevent substance use and related harms in adolescents.
YSUPP Projects
Thirteen projects across Canada are currently funded through YSUPP. Their activities include:
- Building community coalitions and partnerships to strengthen local capacity for youth substance use prevention
- Collecting and mobilizing local data to inform action
- Delivering and evaluating interventions informed by real-time data and community engagement
- Collaborating with researchers to conduct population intervention research on the impacts of IPM implementation in their communities
