In this position statement, the Canadian Public Health Association recommends actions in four areas (national strategy, policy and programs, emergency response, research, surveillance and evaluation) for the improvement of the mental wellness of Canadians. It provides contextual information, such as the distinction between mental health and mental illness, perceived mental health amongst Canadians, economic effects, the influence of determinants of health, as well as public health approaches (including those informed by Indigenous worldviews). The appendices include lists of Indigenous, provincial, and territorial mental wellness action plans.
