This article offers practical guidelines to help researchers, particularly those focused on mental health, engage youth as part of their academic research. Organized into “dos” and “don’ts,” these recommendations were informed by practice-based knowledge, youth input, and empirical evidence and can be applied to all types of methodologies.
The recommendations provided in this paper may help researchers engage youth throughout all stages of their studies and ultimately improve the value and impact of their research.
