Description

The first of three journal articles published in the same volume of Health Promotion Practice, this commentary introduces the Icelandic Prevention Model (IPM), a community-based system-level approach developed in Iceland and designed to prevent youth substance use through multisectoral collaborations aimed at changing social environments. With a focus on background context, the resource provides a brief history of the origins of the IPM approach along with insights into how the large-scale implementation of the IPM became possible, both in Iceland and abroad. Implementation of the IPM approach in Chile is presented as an example.
